finnal draft

the debate over the drinking age has been an ongoing argument for a while and a heavily discussed topic and despite all the debating and arguing over the subject, the drinking age staying at 21 wins out and discussion about raising the drinking age even higher is on the table.

a lot of people who want the drinking age lowered down to 18 years old say that the drinking age being at 21 years of age does not stop minors from getting a hold of and drinking alcohol, and for the record some people even say that it actually leads to more drinking accidents such as the most common one drunk driving, not only that but studies show that the number of underage drinking in college students is actually starting to rise as well because of the 21 drinking age law.

now people that are opposed to lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18 say its because 18 to 20 year old's are immature and tend to get ridiculous when they consume alcohol, but its not just 18 to 20 year old's that act funny when they drink its people of all ages, how old you are does not determine how you will act when you have consumed alcohol its the type of person you are, an 18 year old and a 50 year old could drink the same amount of alcohol and the 18 year old could be calm and relaxing while the 50 year old could be trying to fight everyone around him, point is that your age does not determine what your like when under the influence.

however there is one group of adults who actually agree that the drinking age should be lowered down to 18 years old but in order for this to happen and allow 18 to 20 year old's to be able to drink alcohol they would be required to sit through a class that teaches the dangers of alcohol, then after they completed the course they would receive a license allowing them to buy alcohol at the age of 18 through 20 and it would also restrict them to only drinking in certain places.

there are a good number of people who think that the license idea is a good one and personally i also feel like it could be a good solution to the problem, the idea needs to be refined a little bit but it could be a working solution to the problem but the state does not agree and plans to keep the legal drinking age at 21 years old as of now.

on the other hand there are other people who think that lowering the drinking age to 18 would be good but with different ideals about the situation, this group of people believe that the 18 to 20 year old minors should be allowed to drink alcohol since they are legally adults but should only be allowed to drink in controlled environments like restaurants, bars, pubs, and official college and university functions, by allowing underage drinkers to drink in these controlled environments safe drinking habits could be taught to these underage drinkers such as moderation and drinking plenty of water while drinking, and besides lets face the facts, we all know that the 21 years of age to buy alcohol and drink it is a useless law because it does not stop minors from getting there hands on alcohol and then drinking it irresponsibly so i believe that it would be good interest to allow the controlled environment drinking idea to have a shot, its obvious that the 21 years of age drinking law is an unenforceable law because the law cant efficiently keep tabs on it and prevent people from drinking underage and all the law does is get people into trouble

and not only that but possibly the biggest reason that young adults drink underage is because they see alcohol as a forbidden fruit, something there not supposed to do and something that will make them look "cool" to the other kids and that's most of the reason why a lot of them do it, it is a good possibility that if the drinking age was lowered to 18 years old a lot of the kids who do it would stop because then it would not be fun for them anymore

one of the biggest reasons on why people think the drinking age should be lowered down to 18 years old is the fact that we have soldiers we send out that are 18 to 20 years old out risking there lives for our country and they cant even have a beer when there off duty that's ridiculous, that and the fact that kids in high school and college are always going to find a way to get a hold of alcohol its not something that can be prevented because most of the time they don't get caught unless someone calls the cops on them and when they do get caught it just gets them into trouble

rough draft

the debate over whether or not the drinking age should be lowered is a heavily discussed  topic and has been going on for a while, and despite all that the argument is at a stand still due to both sides of the argument having good reasons on why they are right.

a lot of people say that the drinking age being set at 21 years old does not stop underage drinking from happening and in fact it actually leads to things like more drunk driving accidents and 18-20 year olds getting hurt while under the influence and studies are showing that the number of underage drinking in dudes in college is actually starting to rise.

now while it is true that some people who drink do tend to get ridiculous sometimes and because of that people think that the drinking age should be lowered but the thing is that the age of the drinker does not matter when it comes to how you act under the influence of alcohol, its not the alcohol that is the problem its people control of themselves when they drink the alcohol that makes all of the difference when it comes to how they act under the influence of alcohol .

but in all of the argument and debate there is a group who believes that yes the drinking age should be lowered but in order for people 18-20 to be able to drink alcohol underage they would have to sit though a class that teaches them about the dangers of drinking and the risks of drinking alcohol underage and then they would receive a license that would allow them to purchase and consume alcohol but the license would restrict them to only drinking in certain places.

i personally think the licensed drinking program would be a good idea unfortunate the state does not agree with this and in fact plans to raise the drinking age to the age of 23 years old and many people do not agree with this at all they argue that a 23 year old is no more mature than a 21 year old and that raising the drinking age to 23 years of age is a stupid idea made by politicians

other people believe that the underage drinkers should just be able to drink in controlled environments like restaurants, bars, pubs, and official school and university functions, by allowing underage drinkers to drink in these controlled environments then safe drinking habits could be taught to the underage drinkers of course mature and reasonable drinking habits would be expected of course, i mean even-though the legal age to purchase and drink alcohol is 21 years old that doesn't stop 18-20 year old from getting there hands on it and then drinking it irresponsibly, i mean as you can tell the 21 years of age drinking age is an unenforceable law because really no one follows it and drinks under 21 anyways and it just causes people to get into trouble that could have been avoided had the drinking age simply been at 18 years of age, now the reason that most people underage drink alcohol underage is because they see it as this forbidden fruit if you will and a symbol of adult hood something mere kids shouldent be doing and that entices them to do it.

not only that but if the drinking were to be lowered down to 18 years old then college kids wouldn't get in as near as much trouble with the law and lowering the age will cut down on most young adults drinking and i mean think about all the solders that are 18- 20 years old serving in Iraq and everything i mean if they have the guts to defend our country then why cant they have a beer, plus college kids and underage kids in high school there all gonna drink underage anyways i mean there gonna find some way to do it so why not just make it legal, plus if you can vote on who is going to be the president of the united states at 18 years old then why shouldent you be able to drink as well i mean it is the age that you are legally an adult

now some people say that an 18 year old has less tolerance than a 21 year old and that may or may not be true but in all honesty you dont know how much you can handle until you try it out really its about having responsibility and knowing your limits because sometimes a 15 year old can be more responsible than a 50 year old!!

plus most of the reasons people drink underage is because they see underage drinking as this fun thrill that there not supposed to do and it excites them but if the drinking age was lowered to make drinking legal at 18 then most likely there would be less underage drinking problems.

and in places like china, italy, and greece and countries like there drinking age is lower than ours and seems to have less drinking problems, whilst our laws about the drinking age has caused more alcohol related deaths than there has ever been

the colleges and university seem to be on the college students side when it comes to the matter of the drinking age, they also believe that the drinking age should be lowered down to 18 years of age because making it illegal for anyone under the age of 21 is just making the problem even worse, these colleges and university say that if the lower the legal drinking age to 18 years of age then there will most likely be less alcohol related deaths

working outiline

even though the legal drinking age in the united states of america is 21 years of age, this does not prevent minors from consuming alcohol, the 21 years of age MDLA does not stop underage drinking and it causes more drunk driving accidents!!!

ever since 1979 the amount of underage drinking has stayed the same and some even say that its gotten worse over the years, there is heavy dispute over wether or not the drinking age should be lowered or not, in fact the united states of america is the only country to have a legal drinking age of 21 years old, not only that if the drinking age was lowered some people believe that it would reduce the amount of accidents while drinking alcohol.

it goes without saying that there is a some what rather large arguement over wether or not the drinking age should be lowered or not infact some people belive that the drinking age should be raised which is a stupid idea because if your gonna change the drinking age then lower it, it is belived that the united states of america is planning to raise the drinking age to 23 years old which like i said before is kind of stupid snice a 23 year old is no more resposible than a 21 year old

now on the other hand in the opinion of other types of people some belive that there should be a lowered drinking age yes, but they belive you should have to go though a program called choose responsiblity and have to sit though an 8 hour class about the dangers of drinking and then recive a liecense to buy alcohol from 18-21 years old.

1. the first article talks about how the drinking age being 21 does not stop any minors from drinking alcohol and the age 21 restriction leads to more drunk driving, it also shows that the level of underage drinking from dudes in college has not changed since 1979, the 21 drinking age restriction does not stop underage drinking and leads to more drunk driving, it also shows that the rate of underage drinking in dudes in college is starting to rise!!,

1. well this guys opinion states that he thinks that lowering the drinking age is a bad idea because he says that the opinion to lower the drinking age is just a cop-out by the college presidents making the recommendation, he states that he was one of the last 18 year olds in the united states that was allowed to drink at 18 years old so he has seen what happens when 18-20 year olds drink alcohol and he thinks that it would be worse in this day in age because of the more ambitious teenagers in this day and age.

"Young have mixed views on age change." New Zealand Herald [Auckland, New Zealand] 28 Apr. 2010: 2. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 19 Jan. 2016.

1. in this article they argue about weather or not the drinking age should be raised or lowered some of the underage drinkers even agree that younger drinkers do tend to act ridiculous while under the influence of alcohol and that the drinking age should be raised but others argue that its not the age of the drinkers it is the alcohol abuse it doesn't matter what age the drinker is but its how they handle or abuse alcohol, basicly the whole arguement of this article is that its not that its because its 18 year olds drinking alcohol the problem is the drinking culture as a whole.

Main, Carla T. "Underage drinking and the drinking age." Policy Review 155 (2009): 33+.Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 20 Jan. 2016.

1. in this article they bring up the arguement of underage drinking and they talk about a program called choose resposibilty which is in favor of lowering the drinking age to 18 but making it to where 18 year old,s have to go to a course to get a license to be able to buy alcohol and they also want to set a law that lets 18 year olds only drink on private property and in social clubs.

lowering the drinking age would be a good idea since you are techincally a legal adult at 18 you should be able to make your own choices about alchool when you are a legal adult if the drinking age is lowered it is belived that there will be less accidents while drinking since it will be in a supervised enviroment.

antithesis: the drinking age should not be lowered for several reasons such as it is firstly since it can stunt the growth of people under 21 years old and the 21 MDLA has lowered the fatal driving accidents wihile under the influence of alchool.
